The Boy who ate Planes

I wrote this story for a second-cousin of mine. He is nearly two-years-old now, and maybe one day will eat Concorde. We shall see.

The Boy who ate Planes
By Nick Mellish

Michael liked planes.  He liked their wings; he liked their windows; he liked their size; and he liked their noise.  In fact, Michael liked planes so much that one day, he decided to eat a whole one.

Michael! Oh no! This is a silly idea!

He found one he liked at the local airport.  He liked its bright yellow colour; he liked its pointy nose; he liked its shiny windows; and he liked its noisy, noisy engine.
“Yes!” He said. “Yes! This is the plane that I shall eat!”
And he opened his mouth… and started to nibble!

Michael! Oh no! What are you doing?!

Michael licked the tail of the plane and bit into it, crunching and crunching as he chewed and chewed and chewed.  It tasted of clouds and was nice and warm, like a faraway island.  He finished the tail with one loud GULP and then moved further down the plane.

Michael! Oh no! Don’t eat the plane!

He made short work of the engines and the plane’s tiny kitchen, polished off the windows and the flickering lights down the aisle, and rubbed his fingers over the bumpy headrests on the seats before eating them whole, too.

Michael! Oh no! Aren’t you full up?

Michael smelt the ceiling and decided that he liked the way it smelled, so he rolled up all the metal into a large circle and rolled it down his throat until it hit the bottom of his tummy with a loud THUMP.

Michael! Oh no! There’s hardly any plane left to eat!

Michael only had the cockpit left to eat now.  He sat down in the pilot’s seat and nibbled on their headphones.  He then started to work his way around the cockpit, eating lights and switches and buttons and wheels, until there was no plane left to eat.  Michael was very full up.

Michael! Oh no! Don’t you feel sick?

Michael rubbed his tummy and stretched, and then he poked it and pressed it, until he could feel the plane’s engine deep inside his belly.  He made sure that the coast was clear, and he turned the engine on.  There was a loud roaring sound and he started to shake, and then suddenly…
… WHOOSH! He flew straight up into the sky with all the other planes.

     Michael! Hurray! Fly far away!
